Slovenian Breast Cancer Screening Programme, called DORA, is an organized population based programme. It provides screening mammography every two years for all women in Slovenia aged 50–69 years using invitations with prefixed screening appointment. The programme is centralized with the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana as a responsible and holding institution. In all screening units and all screening procedures high quality standards are assured in accordance with European guidelines.
The primary aim of the breast screening programme is to reduce mortality of women in target group from breast cancer through early detection for 25–30 %.
Breast Cancer Screening programme is one of the three national cancer screening programmes in Slovenia. They are all part of a comprehensive set of activities to lower the cancer burden in Slovenia set out in the National Cancer Control Plan.
